Living in this world, we will tire of what we see happening—being pre-judged, ostracized, feeling rejected, defeated and forgotten. Living in this world, we will become frustrated by the blatant injustice, oppressive systems and agendas designed for the ‘haves’ while the ‘have nots’ struggle to survive day-to-day. Living in this world, evil men and women in positions of power abusing it for political reason will anger us.
Therefore, many pray to God like Asaph in Psalm 74:1-23. We outline all that we see happening as if God does not see and know. We make our lists of complaints, asking ‘why’ and ‘how long’ will this continue.
When it appears nothing is changing and we see no results, we become angry; we attempt to handle matters on our terms, our way from a posture of vengefulness, which is always against God’s way of doing things. For those who resolve to take matters into their own hands only make matters worse. Although our questionable reasons and timelines do not intimidate God, He expects those who identify themselves as His people to trust Him, seek His wisdom and follow His instructions on how to affect the world His way and make a difference as His representatives in a world of gross darkness.
In this world, uncontrolled anger and division are weapons of mass destruction. As Christians, we must be intentional about viewing life from God’s perspective. It helps to behave differently. For example, we are in the world but not of the world (John 15:19, 17:16). Remember, we do not allow the world to shape us; we do not copy the behavior and customs of this world. Instead, we let God transform us by changing the way we think. When we allow God’s word to change our way of thinking, our behavior changes (Romans 12:2).
We live by Kingdom principles and operate from a posture of love, peace, hope, and compassion. We are always ready and willing to share the love of Christ and the hope of glory to all who will receive Him by faith. We are eager to show compassion and let our light shine so others will see Christ in us. Remember, we are the light of the world—like a city upon a hill, we cannot hide! (Matthew 5:14) Our light will shine in this dark world.
Instead of complaining about all the evil we see, living in fear, and watching the news, change your perspective. I suggest you watch the newscasts to see things to pray about. Look through the lens of faith to see Jesus the Christ, who cannot fail. And if He cannot fail, neither can we if we stay connected to Him. Reminder: We are God’s masterpiece. He created us anew in Christ Jesus so we can do good works, which He planned for us long ago.
Living in this world, we may tire of all the foolishness, but we will persevere. We will endure, and we will win; we overcome because Jesus said:
I have told you these things so that you will be whole and at peace. In this world, you will be plagued with times of trouble, but you need not fear; I have triumphed over this corrupt world order. -John 16:33 The Voice
